Jack - A receptacle for a plug used to interconnect electronic devices and sources.
Jacket - The protective outer covering on a cable or wire that may provide electrical insulation and/or resistance to chemicals, abrasion and moisture.
Joule - A unit of energy equal to one watt per second.
Jump (Jumper) - To provide a temporary circuit path to close an open path or route around a component or other circuit. A jumper is the device that enables this action.
Kapton - A polyamide film made by DuPont that possesses a high degree of durability and performance in extreme temperature environments. Speaker manufacturers use multi layers of this material to produce high performance voice coil formers. These formers greater power handling and cooler operation for the voice coil. Kirchoff's Current Law (KCL) - A law stating that the total current entering a point or junction in a circuit must equal the sum of the current leaving that point or junction.
Kirchoff's Voltage Law (KVL) - (KVL) A law stating stating that the voltage supplied to a DC circuit must equal the sum of the voltage drops within the circuit.
Kirchoff's Laws (how they are used) - Both the current and voltage laws illustrate that the current flow through a circuit is the same at all points. Because of this, we can determine the voltage drop across a resistance based upon then current and resistance values. |
